I am at the
age of twenty-three and yet I still don’t know what to do with my life. Yes I
do have personal goals for myself, but I’ve come to find they’re not specific
career goals. Till this day I still ask myself what do I want to be when I grow
up. I’ve always wanted to be a dancer, yet at a young age I knew I couldn’t
make enough money. At the age of sixteen, I was able to get a job in retail at
one of my favorite stores I loved shopping in when I was little. I loved my job,
yet after being promoted in two years, and working for the company for four
years, I knew I wasn’t learning anything new. That’s when I decided to put my
big girl pants on and try a new company. I was learning new things everyday at
my new job and found that I loved my job again. Keep in mind I was still in
school during all of this and was just taking classes I needed or what I
thought I wanted to do with my life. Nope that didn’t work out because I
wouldn’t still be in school today.
After going
to a new company, I was given a little push by a close friend and boss about
school. She said, if like working in retail so much why don’t I just get a
degree in it. I was like holy cow why didn’t I think of this sooner and a light
bulb went off. I now had a goal to get after and that was to get my associates
degree in fashion merchandising. I
couldn’t wait to start classes and actually start learning about something that
I enjoy learning about. Here is the catch, now that I almost have my degree, I
have no clue how I want to use or do with it. I’m stuck all over again. I have three goals I know I want to achieve
by the time my last semester is over with and I have my degree. One: figure out
what I’m going to do for a bachelor’s degree. Second: talk to my teachers and
find connections to people with this type of degree. Third: figure out exactly
what I can actually do with my associate’s degree in a corporate world. I’m
sure I’ll have one or two more goals here shortly, but those are my top three
goals as of right now. Stay tuned to see how this journey to a career plays
